What’s Wittman Watch?
Hi! We’re residents of Virginia’s First District, and we’re keeping a close eye on Representative Rob Wittman. As our Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives, he has failed us for too long.
Wittman was elected in 2007 as a moderate Republican. Over time, he has become far less moderate and now openly enables and supports President Trump’s extreme agenda, mostly through silent complicity — just like the vast majority of his Republican colleagues in Congress. Wittman’s increasingly frequent emails and press releases — which he boasts about as if they’re a magical blessing — are packed full of disinformation, misinformation, and outright lies. He has failed us. Whether you are a conservative, progressive, MAGA, liberal, moderate, or independent, Wittman is not working for you. At Trump’s behest, he works for billionaires and his own donors. In the process, he’s driving up the national debt and the prices of everything, creating chaos domestically and internationally, and attacking the Constitution, while sprinkling occasional token benefits to the rest of us.
Wittman Watch exists to:
Hold Wittman to account for his actions and for the truth of his communications
Show First District Virginians how they’re being willfully misled
Help everyone understand how VA-01 can secure better representation in Congress, and who’s running to deliver it
Create opportunities for conversation on the issues and priorities in our district
Illuminate how the silent complicity of Trump’s enablers works in practice, so other House districts across the country can benefit from our work
Since mid-2025, we’ve been posting on BlueSky, Instagram, and Facebook. We’ve since added Reddit and X. Our Substack hosts our longer pieces of analysis, and reaches everyone who prefers email over social media. Our work is, and will always be, free to read and share.
Perhaps you support Mr. Wittman or President Trump, or you disagree with points we’re making. We welcome your disagreement and we’re happy to have a robust debate in good faith. Bring facts and be respectful of people who hold other opinions (whatever you may think of the opinions themselves). We invite the challenge of differing viewpoints, because change demands that we vigorously debate to find the best path forward. So, bring your courtesy and your A-game, and we’ll do the same.
The First District (also known as VA-01 or CD-01) has only one seat in the House of Representatives. It’s our seat. It doesn’t belong to Rob Wittman, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or anyone else. It’s ours! We decide who gets to occupy it on our behalf. That person must:
Represent all of the people within VA-01
Operate as a member of an independent legislative branch of government - not as a patsy for whatever the current Executive wants
Engage with us as constituents, including through regular, in-person town hall meetings
Advocate for the changes that will make VA-01 safer, wealthier, and healthier
By any of these metrics, Wittman does not measure up. We must #FlipVA01 in November 2026. And Wittman should be worried. Abigail Spanberger won handily in VA-01 in the 2025 elections, and there are signs that discontent with the Trump administration will only grow bigger by the midterm elections.
Our emails feature exclusive-to-Substack articles, plus highlights from our recent posts. We are eager for your feedback, so please add comments where you have some, or email us at wittmanwatch@gmail.com. We also invite you to browse selected longer posts from our social media history.
We know that Wittman’s antics may make you feel angry, anxious, or confused (and maybe all three!). Be part of a community of people who feel the same way, and are doing something about it. Participate in the comments section, share our (always free!) content, invite your friends to subscribe, and together we in the First District can get the representation we need and deserve.
