Watch: VA-01 Candidate "Speed Dating" Event
Speed round questions reveal much about the candidates
On 15 January the Historic Triangle Democrats hosted a “Speed Dating” Zoom meeting for the eight Democratic candidates in VA-01, competing to beat Rob Wittman. Almost 400 people registered, so interest in these candidates and this race is high! The video recording of the event is now available to watch. Remember you can learn more about every candidate, and connect with them online, via our handy directory.
The questions asked of the group were (paraphrased!):
How will you lower costs for Virginians?
What’s the one issue you’re most passionate about?
What does the phrase “American Dream” mean to you? How will you help people achieve it?
If you were given $10m, how would you use it to help VA01?
Why are you are the best candidate to beat Wittman?
This was the first time that all the candidates were gathered in one place to answer the same questions. We were struck by how consistent the candidates were in identifying the issues on which Wittman is failing: affordability, protecting the Constitution, reining in an out-of-control Executive, healthcare access, rural infrastructure, and building opportunity for people in VA-01, among others.
HTDems announced that, on a to-be-announced date, there will be an in-person meet-and-greet at their office in Williamsburg. We’ll post information about that when we have it.
Congratulations to the HTDems for organizing this excellent event, and to each of the candidates for their participation.
